ABOUT FLOOD INSURANCE

 BUILDING COVERAGE PROTECTS YOUR:

  • Electrical and plumbing systems
  • Furnaces and water heaters
  • Refrigerators, cooking stoves, and built-in appliances like dishwashers
  • Permanently installed carpeting
  • Permanently installed cabinets, paneling, and bookcases
  • Window blinds
  • Foundation walls, anchorage systems, and staircases
  • Detached garages
  • Fuel tanks, well water tanks, pumps, and solar energy equipment


CONTENTS COVERAGE PROTECTS YOUR:

  • Personal belongings such as clothing, furniture, and electronic equipment
  • Curtains
  • Washer and dryer
  • Portable and window air conditioners
  • Microwave oven
  • Carpets not included in building coverage (e.g., carpet installed over wood floors)
  • Valuable items such as original artwork and furs (up to $2,500)

Items not covered by building or contents coverage:

  • Temporary housing and additional living expenses incurred while the building is being repaired or is unable to be occupied
  • Property outside of an insured building. For example, landscaping, wells, septic systems, decks and patios, fences, seawalls, hot tubs, and swimming pools
  • Financial losses caused by business interruption
  • Currency, precious metals, stock certificates and other valuable papers
  • Cars and most self-propelled vehicles, including their parts
  • Personal property kept in basements

 Common Flood Insurance Myths

  • You can’t buy (or you only need) flood insurance if you are located in a high-risk flood area
  • Homeowners' insurance policies cover flooding (Not unless you purchased a separate rider)
  • You can’t buy flood insurance if your property has been flooded
  • Flood insurance can only be purchased through the NFIP directly
  • The NFIP does not offer any basement coverage
  • Flood insurance is only available for homeowners (renters can buy contents policies)
  • You can purchase flood insurance immediately before or during a flood.
  • Federal disaster assistance will automatically pay for flood damage. (Average payout $4,500)

What is an illicit discharge?

-          Illicit discharge is any flow of pollutants or non-stormwater material allowed to enter the storm sewer systems (including swales) from overland flows or direct dumping of materials into a catch basin.

-          Examples of illicit discharge include: chemicals, dirt from construction, overuse of fertilizers and peticides.

If you see an illicit discharge, you may fill out the form at this link and send it to the Township.
